The core project for 2005 is to establish a trail Network along the Kaslo River with two main bridges linking the North side of the river with the South side of the river and also to make a link up to the new True Blue Mountain Recreational Area (TBM) located adjacent to the airport.

One bridge is planned on 5th Street and another where the old wood stave pipe by the old Dam went across the river. Once that is established the focus will shift to develop the TBM recreational area and to maintain the trail system already there. The Kaslo Trailblazers are not restricted to within the Village limits, but development for trails in the surrounding areas are also in the agenda for the future.

Not only will this be a scenic trail along the Kaslo River for old and young to enjoy, but it is also historic, since it follows along the old wood stave pipeline that provided the water for the hydroelectric power plant located on the Kaslo river, which in turn supplied Kaslo with electricity for over 50 years starting, in around 1897.

Many interest groups and individuals will derive benefit from this trail system. Not only that it will link different parts of the Village together but also provide a pathway where people can either take a leisurely walk, do their exercises or get from one point to another without having to walk along the highway. The school can access the trail for their jogging exercise program not having to go across or go along any major streets or highways. The bridge at Fifth Street will be a pedestrian crossing so that there is a second way across the River. This bridge will be built so that people in wheelchairs can navigate over it.

This is a very worthwhile project where everyone will be the winner, old and young, and anyone can participate to whatever extent they wish. So please sign up, may you be 5 or 105 years old. Not only will this project be fun but also bring this community together and solidify the spirit of this beautiful Village.
